Jon Scott Owen
Cohort Curator
Jon Scott Owen is one of a small force of only 18 Pilates teachers in the world that were hand picked by first generation luminary Jay Grimes to receive certificates in both of his highly selective graduate programs, “The Work” and “Teaching the Work”.
Jon began his journey with Contrology in 2000 studying for a Bachelor of Music in Music Theatre at the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory. After moving to NYC and working as an actor he continued to utilize the Pilates method under the watchful eye of Jeanette Palmer.
With the Work in his body and unable to keep from sharing its benefits, Jon decided to dig deeper and was initially certified to teach by Linda Farrel. From there Jon went on to mentor with Patrick Strong’s protégé, Barbara Hoon. Working by her side he met Ray Kurshals, with whom Jon received an additional teaching certificate through a private, one on one course of study.
In 2017 Jon was honored by Gratz Industries as a featured teacher in their Equipment Gallery. He can be seen modeling the Work throughout the pages of both publications “The Red Thread: The Mat” and “The Red Thread: The Arm/Baby Chair”. He also appears on film at Pilatesology, demonstrating for several superstars of the industry.
Jon has been fortunate to have had the opportunity to spread the genius of Joseph Pilates across the globe. He has taught at Columbia University Medical Center, The CUNY Graduate Center, Ithaca College, Pilates Challenge and Real Pilates in New York City, Six Degrees in New Jersey, The Pilates School in Massachusetts, Pilates by Norma Jean in Florida, Mind Body & Pilates in Nevada, Pilatesology in California, Gaia Pilates in Italy, Pilatistic in Spain, and Gratz Conferences in both Chicago Illinois, and Valencia Spain.
